Mt Mayon Trekking

Mayon Volcano rises 2,462m above the Bicol Region of the Philippines and has a based circumferences of 62.8km. It is located right in the center of the Albay Province, 460km south of Manila. The Mayon is visible from nearly all cities and towns in the Albay Provinces and also neighboring provinces

Mayon is a strato volcano known for its almost perfect symmetrical triangle shape, it is commonly referred to as one of the wonders of the world. The upper slopes of the Mayon are steep reaching up to 40 degree in angle. One of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines with 49 eruptions since the first documented activity in 1616. The worst recorded eruption occurred on February 1 1814, some 1,200 people from the nearby town of Cagsawa sought refuge inside the local church, but had lost their lives, as the whole town including the church was completely destroyed by the lava. Only the  church tower remained standing. To this day, the Cagsawa still stand upright as an eerie reminder of the power behind the Mayon’s beauty.

Mayon Camp Levels:

  1. Base Camp – approximately 250 meters or 800 feet above sea level. Vehicles can drive up to this area. As per Department of Tourism rules, trekkers will also have to register in this area.
  2. Camp 1 – Approximately 700 meters or 2,300 feet above sea level. For overnight treks, guests will be spending the night here. It is common that guests trek past base camp 1 on Day 1, but the guests will have to return to this area for the evening’s rest.
  3. Camp 2  – Approximately 1,800 meters or 5,900 feet above sea level.
  4. Knife’s Edge  – Approximately 2,200 meters or 7,300 above sea level. This is the highest point which can be trekked up too.

  • View of the town of Sto. Domingo, Legazpi City and Albay Gulf
  • Expect a spectacular scenery
  • A nice easy walk to Camp 1
  • A closer glimpse of the crater at 1,800 feet high
  • A walk through volcanic rocks with shades of tropical plants and trees
